Northern Beaches Secondary College has proven, yet again, that it is at the forefront of innovative teaching and learning. The College has been awarded one of the Australian Government’s Australian Schools Innovation in Science, Technology and Mathematics (ASISTM) grants for its project, Science Connections.

Science Connections will bring together students and teachers from the five campuses of the College to engage in developing innovative approaches to science teaching and learning. The College project aims to link the Campuses with industry, science organisations and a university to explore ways to encourage a culture of innovation.

In partnership with the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), students and teachers from the five College Campuses will have the opportunity to pioneer new approaches to teaching and learning science.

Science Connections is designed around three key elements: connecting students, connecting teachers and connecting the community. It will give students the opportunity to work with mentors already working in the science field. ASISTM projects are designed to bring about real and permanent improvements to the ways in which science, technology and mathematics are taught in schools

Principal of the College, Steve Pickering says, “We are absolutely delighted to receive this $80,000 grant from the Australian Government. It will help us deliver some really exciting innovation in science teaching in conjunction with our partner, the University of Technology, Sydney.”
