Enrolment Policy
Introduction
The Northern Beaches Education Partnership, consisting of the Northern Beaches Secondary College, TAFE NSW Northern Sydney Institute and The University of Technology, Sydney, has as its prime purpose the expansion of educational opportunity for its students. Combining its skills, resources, expertise and experience, the Partnership is committed to the delivery of unparalleled opportunities in secondary education on the Northern Beaches.
In Years 11 and 12 students have the opportunity of accessing a comprehensive education program across the five senior campuses of the College.
Guiding Principles
• Enrolment to the College in Year 7: Department of Education and Training (DET) policy for enrolment of students in Year 7 at a government High School will be followed for enrolments in the College in Year 7. Current Local Designated Area arrangements will, where applicable, continue for College campuses and waiting lists will be established as is current practice. The Manly Selective Campus will operate under NSW selective schools rules. Enrolment enquiries should be directed to individual campuses.
• Enrolment at the College in Years 8 – 10: Initial enquiries relating to enrolments in Years 8 – 10 will be handled by the specific campus and/or the CAC. Enrolment at a specific campus will be handled by enrolment staff at that campus. State wide enrolment procedures will apply to students in Years 8 – 10 and students wishing to enrol at the Manly Selective Campus will need to qualify as selective school students.
• Enrolment at the College in Years 11 – 12 is at one of the five senior campuses. Enrolment of full-time students from outside the College will be possible at the Balgowlah, Cromer, Freshwater and Mackellar Campuses, according to available places.
• Full-time enrolment at the Manly Selective Campus will depend on the availability of places and the applicant satisfying Manly Selective entry requirements.
• Part-time enrolment at any one of the five senior campuses within the College will be accessible to College students, depending upon student suitability and the availability of places. Part-time enrolment will be available to students from other Northern Beaches government high schools depending upon student suitability and availability of places after College students have made their choices. Subject to availability, any further places may be accessed by TAFE NSW HSC students attending the Northern Beaches College of TAFE.
• Places will be available at the Cromer and Freshwater Campuses for students wishing to pursue a combination of mainstream HSC courses and Life Skills HSC courses. There will also be special education (IM and IO) provisions at both of these campuses.
Student Placement in Years 11 and 12
• Priority enrolment at Northern Beaches Secondary College in Years 11 and 12 will be given to students currently enrolled at the College. (Note: Special selection criteria apply to enrolments at Manly Selective Campus)
• College students will have absolute priority continuing in Years 11 and 12 at the campus they have entered during their junior secondary years.
• Each campus will offer a comprehensive range of subjects providing a broad, balanced curriculum for the Higher School Certificate.
• College students in Years 11 and 12 may study all of their subjects on one campus, choosing from the range offered on that campus. Alternatively, they may expand their subject choice by application to the CAC to access available places at other campuses.
• Part time enrolment will be accepted for government school students from outside the College if there are vacancies in the courses.
• Placement on individual College campuses in Years 11 and 12 will be determined to best meet student needs within the framework of the efficient and effective use of College resources.
